United Way Homewalk

Think Togther provides students more than academic support. They also learn valuable life lessons and how to invest in their communities. Such was the experience for students from our Southeast Los Angeles Region, participating in United Way’s 2019 Annual Homewalk.

United Way of Greater Los Angeles has partnered with Think Together since 2007. The foundation supports our college readiness program, preparing students to attend college and providing exposure to future career opportunities. United Way’s Homewalk, an event to end homelessness and poverty in LA County, provides an additional opportunity for students to learn about poverty in their community and ways to combat it.

80 students attended this year’s walk in Downtown LA and learned about the impact they can have in their community. Sharing about his experience at the Homewalk, tenth-grader Armando Navarro said, “I like to help others and show support to other people and that’s what I was able to do on this walk.”

With partners like United Way, we’re changing the odds for kids by preparing them to thrive in the future. “It means everything to me seeing my daughter volunteering,” shares parent Maria Manzanno, “Thank you so much for being a good impact in my daughter’s life.”
