Without access to books, activities, or structured enrichment, that momentum fades. By the time school resumes, much of what was gained has been lost.
This isn’t a hypothetical story it’s the reality for many students across California. Research shows that students can lose 20–50% of their academic gains over the summer, with the greatest losses often occurring in math. For students without access to summer learning opportunities, the gap widens year after year, making it harder to stay on track for long-term success
