Think Together’s Annual Lights On Afterschool Virtual Celebration Advocating for Afterschool and Expanded Learning Programs

Lights On Afterschool is a nationwide event hosted by the Afterschool Alliance that brings together more than 8,000 programs to spotlight the transformative impact of expanded learning on young people and the communities that support them.

California is a national leader in advancing innovative approaches to support and fund expanded learning, helping to ensure more children have access to affordable, high-quality afterschool programs. Through investments like the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP), the state is making these opportunities possible for students and families across California.

Through “Partnering for Brighter Futures,” Think Together is strengthening aligned school partnerships that connect students with the support, opportunities and resources they need to thrive, both in school and on the path beyond graduation.

Why Afterschool Programs Matter

Afterschool programs provide more than a safe place to learn; they help students strengthen academic skills, build confidence and develop the communication, critical-thinking and social skills they need for the future.

When students show up, they have more opportunities to succeed. Students in expanded learning programs demonstrate improved school-day attendance, contributing nearly $95 million in additional funding for California schools that support students and their learning.
