Parent Story: Alisha Harris

Alisha starts her mornings at 5 a.m. Being a single parent, she’s responsible for getting her fifth-grade daughter, Laila, to school before commuting to work. Without extended family in the area, Alisha’s on her own with raising Laila. But she enrolls her in a Think Together program, and that means she has the support system to be an amazing mom and employee.

“If I didn’t have Think Together,” says Alisha, “I wouldn’t be able to work.” Laila’s been in the Think Together program since first grade. During this time, Alisha’s had the support to build her career – even after being laid off once. Now as a sales manager for a large company, Alisha has a great career and knows Think Together is providing her daughter a safe place with homework support.

And the best part is Laila never wants to miss a day of program. Alisha values the structure in afterschool, especially as she’s witnessed kids getting into trouble who are not in the program. Think Together provides Laila opportunities to explore her passions in a safe, supportive environment. “Think Together changes the kids, we’re like a family,” Alisha shares.

Alisha can’t wait for her daughter to go to college. Laila will be a first-generation college student, like countless other Think Together students, and Alisha knows she’ll be ready with the support she’s receiving in the Think Together program. “Without Think Together, my child wouldn’t succeed,” Alisha says, “I know she’s safe and I’m blessed to have her here.”
